Helpful Tips & Reminders
Need access to your work computer from home?
The most efficient way to work from home is to have access to all the software and resources you are used to having at the office. There are many software options available that can help including some that are subscripiton based and some that have free versions which will have everything you will need. The key features to look for when choosing which to use is "Unattended Access" .
Unattended access is a feature that allows you to connect into your work computer without someone standing at it to start the connection. It's a secure way to make sure you will be able to connect to that computer anytime. Below are a few options we have used in the past which support multiple devices.
MSP360 Remote Assist (Completely Free)
Zoho Assist (Free Version Available)
TeamViewer (Paid Subscription, Free for Personal Use, Free Trial available)
GoToMyPc (Paid Subscription, Free Trial available)
LogMein Pro (Paid Subscription, Free Trial available)
Microsoft Remote Desktop (Included with the Pro versions of Windows but does require network router/firewall configurations, see your IT person for assistance as needed)
A few things to consider with any remote connection option:
- Someone at the office will need to do a one-time setup of the software on the computer. One person can set up access for the staff if they have the user/password to everyone's computer.
- the computer needs to be powered on and connected to the internet to connect to remotely. It's recommended that you set your power management setting to not allow the computer to Sleep.
- If there is a power outage at the office, the computer will need to be started by someone at the office. Inexpensive battery backups (UPS) can be used to provide power to the PC in location where brief power interruptions are common.
- In the event the computer needs to reboot for any reason, you should be able to connect back in with Unattended Access once it has fully restarted.

- Security - Add a new security right to allow or prevent users from adjusting the progress billed % amounts on orders

- Misc - Create an Edit Description option in the Line Item Options right-click menu so it can be changed without having to Edit the entire transaction

Backup Reminder!
Don't forget the importance of regularly backing up your system to an external source (i.e. not on the same server). In the event that you are a target to ransomware viruses and everything on your server is lost, you will have a backup to get back up and running quickly.
